Good morning, Charlottesville!
I’m excited because my sister and brother-in-law are coming to visit us (and Charlottesville) for the first time this evening. They will stay for the weekend and we will show them the town. To put it in perspective, they live in a small agricultural community (pop. 6,000) in northern Illinois. My brother-in-law travels worldwide for work, but neither of them have ever been to this part of the world.
So, here’s my question, Charlottesville, what would you do?
If they want to go to Monticello, I’ll take them there . . . and we definitely want to hang out on the downtown mall . . . but what else shall we do?
I’m also looking for restaurant ideas. All comments and ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Try Mas in Belmont; humpback rock is great for hiking (very typical place to hike but still extraordinary). Drive out to Sugar Hollow (the drive is great) and hike.
Crozet is a good town to visit for the pizza and the Ark, there are other restaurants out there too). My proclivity is to the West but Scottsville is fun. Try out all the Farmers Markets and cook at home.
I am leaving town this weekend so I will be doing none of this. Luckily I get to another great area in the 5th congressional district.

I’m a Midwestern girl at heart (and in origin) and my parents visit every year.
The Rotunda Tour is nice (and free). Jefferson’s Academical Village is really kind of unique. I love the Pavilion Gardens and spend many afternoons reading in a quiet spot.
I’d take them up into the mountains. Humpback Rocks visitors center often has historic interpreters on the weekends. If they’re into barbecue, come down via Nellysford and stop in at the Blue Ridge Pig.
The City Market on Saturday is a must! My parents adore it. I’d recommend brunch on the mall and a walk through the market.
My parents really like Mas. They’re hard to please–someplace has to fit their Midwestern ideals and my strict diet. Mas fits the bill for us. I may try Al Dente soon, though.
