Reviews: a trail, lunch and a movie

It was a fantastic day. We started out with a hike up Turk Mountain with the kids. It was nice and cool out. This is a perfect hike for a family; not too strenuous, with a great reward at the peak. We sat on the boulders at the top and looked out over the Shenandoah Valley, watching a tiny train go by and the clouds rolling in.

For Anoop, a lunch review: We followed that up with our first trip to Crozet Pizza. The meat lovers’ pizza was delicious — we agreed that, while a little pricey, it’s our favorite Charlottesville-area pizza to date. The ambiance reminded us of our favorite college town joint, Shakespeare’s in Columbia, Mo. We can’t ever replace Shakes, but now we have a decent substitute. Watching the dreadlocked dude spinning crusts above his head, singing along to Diana Ross’s Upside Down was my favorite lunchtime moment.

This evening the girl and I took a trip to the mall where we browsed books, reviewed the fall fashions and enjoyed the new pumpkin offerings at Bath and Body Works. Then, we came home and watched March of the Penguins. I can’t think of a single movie using Morgan Freeman’s voice that I haven’t enjoyed. The girl mixed up Morgan Fairchild with Morgan Freeman and so had a brief confused moment. I’m pretty sure March wouldn’t have been the same if they’d used Fairchild’s voice.

I liked that movie as well… although it is a little rough watching the chicks die with your 5 year old present: “Daddy, why do they have to die”.

You are right about the Morgan Freeman comment… He can make just about any movie watchable even if its with the likes of Ben Affleck or Keanu
