Setting the scene
I realized I never shared the photos of the new dining room table and hutch. After months of pondering and searching, we finally found what we wanted.
The table with the leaf is a 60″ x 60″ square, able to seat eight.
The drawback is that tablecloths are difficult to find and way too expensive for a custom-sized version. We’re going with pumpkin-colored placemats instead.
This is our first and probably last, dining room table. It’s tough to buy something that you expect to last so long.
Here’s the hutch, before I filled the glass-front cabinets with candlesticks, china and this and that. Wine, anyone?

When we bought this house, this room was two shades of lavender, with a Laura Ashley-inspired floral valance on the picture window. Needless to say, it was among the first rooms we attacked with our paintbrushes. I like the olive. We need some artwork for the walls, but that’s not a priority at the moment. When I see what I am looking for, I guess I’ll know it.
So this is where we’ll be much of the afternoon on Thursday, tryptophanning out.

Wow. Beautiful home. Beautiful hardwoods.
I’m sure the ghosts of grandmas past are envious.

Hey MJ:
Buy a tablecloth for a rectangle, cut it off, and hem the sucker! Granted, you won’t get a fancy one this way, and a crocheted tablecloth is right out, but…
BTW, nice choice. The wood guy approves.

Thanks, guys! And yes, I’ve cleaned that filthy window since this shot was taken (so embarrassing). I actually like not covering the table with a cloth, much like we decided not to cover the gorgeous floor with a rug. I have, however, been chasing dust bunnies since Saturday.
