College Campuses Visited

Yes, believe it or not, we’ve begun the college tour with the boy, who will graduate with the class of 2008. JMU is his first pick thus far. Those who know him, the kid who invented laid back, will be amused to know he turned to me just as we started our tour and said, “I’m so excited.” It’s the first time I’ve ever heard him say that about anything. Ever.

Where did you go to college? Any regrets?

I have transcripts from University of West Florida (high school dual enrollment classes, one of which was a top literature course of mine, we read Beowulf in the original Germanic), Pensacola Junior College (summer courses, cheaper and smaller), Florida State University (some kind of cum laude), and the University of Washington (gave me a Master of Science).

No regrets. The junior college classes were well done, focused, and small compared to my normal semesters at FSU.

I should mention, because it’s really unfair not to, that I excluded the community colleges from this list, even though I probably accumulated a minimum of 12 hours at St. Charles County Community College. I like a community college or even a small college trying to prove itself and move up in the world; they try so much harder.

    OK — University of Utah

Matt went to U of I (and was in the Marching Band) and the University of Michigan.

But — the real reason for my post — I know some JMU alums that would be more than happy to talk to ya.

    D-
