Moms: Take Care of Yourselves

A mom friend of mine wrote to provide a little update on her life. She’s been having some issues and hit the figurative pause button, checked herself in, relied on family and is getting them figured out. I want to stand up and cheer for my friend. So often, we moms let our problems go (I do it; you do it; you KNOW you do it) until they cannot be ignored. Now, I’m not saying that my friend took care of herself right away, or that she didn’t wait until things were getting pretty bad, but she didn’t wait any longer. She stopped. She got help. I am sitting here tonight wishing her everything wonderful, wishing I could be with her and make her laugh, and just flat overjoyed that her family and her friends are there for her and will help her through a difficult time.

Come on, moms. Let’s promise each other that we’ll take care of ourselves. We deserve it, and so many people (the big and the little) are counting on us. Let’s be there for them when they need us by getting help when we need it.

I’m interested to know the e-mail of your friend. Maybe I’d feel comfortable e-mailing her to ‘talk’ about problems. I’ve got ‘em and I’ve tried reaching out, but am not sure where to turn next. Maybe your friend and I could help each other.

Pathetic confession – I’ve wished a number of times that I’d collapse somewhere and be put into the hospital for exhaustion for a few days like all the celebrities seem to do! Of course, they’re probably in for something other than “exhaustion,” but still, a couple days of people taking care of you and you doing nothing sounds like a little bit of heaven to me.

Yeah, I know – completely pathetic. I’m gonna go eat some more chocolate now.
