My husband and I have never been together without kids on Halloween — until this year. With the boy off to college and the girl with plans of her own (overnight Halloween party at a friend’s house) we found ourselves kidless. It was a momentous occasion.

The girl was dressed as a Greek Goddess but I used the occasion as an excuse to tart her up with eye makeup.

She looks a little too happy to be getting away from us for the night, doesn’t she?

We wanted to take full advantage of the kidless situation, so we rounded up two also kidless couples and went out to dinner at Si Tapas.

Si, in the former Star Hill location, is pretty good as tapas goes. There were several menu selections we liked, including the pork empanadas, the fondue, the chicken kebabs and the scallops. We even enjoyed dessert (pumpkin cheesecake, apple spice cake and rice pudding).

I’m thinking this may be a new Halloween tradition for us. After 19 years of trick or treating in all kinds of weather, I’m happy for a change.
