Disappointment Has a Tender, Flaky Crust

I cooked and baked all weekend. I was anticipating a couple of guests Sunday night and went into domestic overdrive in preparation. In the early afternoon I discovered they weren’t coming after all and spent the rest of the day biting my lip and pretending it didn’t bother me. (That’s code for “I cleaned and replaced the caulk in my bathroom” because that’s the kind of thing I do when I’m seriously upset.)

A couple of hours before dinner I rallied and we had TWO pies for dinner – a homemade chicken pot pie with apple pie for dessert.

Disappointment is a flavor that often overwhelms the delicious.
